Phyllis Geneva Coats of Hammond, Indiana died on November 8, 2021 at Community Hospital. She will be joyfully reuniting with her parents, brothers and her beloved grandson as well as her one great love.
There will only be a private memorial held by her immediate family.
Phyllis Coats was born Phyllis Hullinger in Meredosia, Illinois on November 30, 1948 to Vernon and Bernice Hullinger. She was the sixth child of seven: Delbert, Wilda, Cora, Barbara, Lois and Gerald Hullinger.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Melvin and his wife, Mandi, Russell and his wife, Lisa, Willia and her husband, Paul and Amy and her husband, Keith; along with 5 great grandchildren.
Phyllis enjoyed cooking, crocheting, camping, fishing, hiking, traveling, family gatherings and spoiling her grandchildren. She also surprisingly embraced video and computer games and was fascinated by the Laura Croft series. Along with loving her own children, she was also “Mom” to dozens of other children and always ensured that everyone felt safe.
She devoted her entire career to elderly care and graduated from the Lafayette School of Practical Nursing in 1983 to further her skills for their care and finally retired in 2014, living with her daughter, Willia and son-in-law, Paul until her passing.
