Janice Kathleen Ahrens LaRue
Janice passed into the loving arms of her Savior in her sleep on July 15, 2023 at the age of 83, at her much loved home on Lake Michigan in New Buffalo, MI. She is survived by her son David Ahrens and daughter-in-law Tamara Ahrens, her brother Robert Kucera and her grandchildren Christopher Ahrens, Sarah Ahrens and Andrew Ahrens.
She was born in Michigan City, IN to her parents Frank and Mildred Kucera in January 1940. She met her husband Harry Ahrens while in high school and they married September 1959. Shortly after her marriage, she was baptized as an adult in her church and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
They lived their first years of marriage in East Lansing, MI while Harry completed his undergraduate and master’s degree at Michigan State University. They spent their first 15 years raising their daughter Katherine Ahrens (Feist) and David Ahrens in Niles, MI. In 1981 they moved to Saline, MI for Harry’s job with State Farm. She was widowed twice; Harry Ahrens passed away in January of 2000; her second husband, John LaRue, passed away in 2007.
Janice was heavily involved as her children were growing up with their school and had a passion for many causes. She attended church regularly and sang in her church choirs for most of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She and Harry were blessed to travel extensively and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In her retirement years she divided her time between her cottage in New Buffalo, her home in Bonita Springs, FL and her son’s home in Rockford, MI. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her personality was gregarious, loving, and friendly. She will be missed by her family and friends. All those that knew and loved her knew she was prepared to go to heaven to be with her Savior Jesus. We are sad because we will miss spending time with her and her constant prayers for us, but we rejoice that she is at peace in heaven.
