Beth and I were not close friends, but she was passionate about expressing her personal humanist faith in low-key ways, in service to our church community at First Unitarian Church in Hobart, and I enjoyed our occasional discussions about odd, freewheeling topics of theology and spirituality. She enriched my life by knowing her, and she deeply enriched our church community, and we will miss her.

Beth attended our practice sessions as often as she could. She will be sorely missed by our group. We have been dedicating our practice to her memory. Namaste

Beth was such a beautiful soul. In our church life, she was always generous, warm, hard working and unassuming. She was a great cook who, because of her dedication to others, often missed the service in the sanctuary because she was preparing a meal for our post-service coffee hour. She took on the hard work of fundraising and was active in all those duties that were essential, time consuming, and were without fanfare (like the rummage sale). She was smart, but never one to be pushy in her opinions. She was a tireless doer, yet never sought recognition or the limelight. Hers was a quiet presence, and so her good humor would often sneak up on you; and when it did, it was a delightful surprise. Rarely did she talk about herself. Personally I will always be grateful for the fact that when she cooked she always made something additional for us vegetarians, even when there were just a couple of us. I will miss her.

I'm so sad to hear this. Beth was always so kind to my kids at church. She was always someone I knew I could sit with and talk. She was an empathetic person and you could tell she really cared about others.
