Donald Edward Wooley, age 84, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jackson Wooley of Crown Point; daughters: Elizabeth Wooley of Crown Point, and Sara (Brian) Bonczynski of Houston, TX; son, Joshua (Rachel) Wooley of Hebron, IN; granddaughters: Avery Hauser of Crown Point, Anna Bonczynski of Dallas, TX, Justine Michielsen of Hammond and Gabrielle Wooley and Josephine Wooley of Hebron; siblings: Carmelita (Don Burks), Tanya (Keith Sorrells), and Robert (Bonnie) Wooley, all of AR; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents: Hubert and Imogene (nee Fortner); brother, Hugene Wooley of Jacksonville, AR; and sister, Juanita Booth of Baytown, TX.
Don served in the Air Force on the Dew Line built as defense above the Arctic Circle during the late 1950’s. He was a voracious reader and after his retirement from USS, bought books in many states and sold them online and in antique malls. In his Alzheimer’s years he seemed to be living inside some of those books as he “remembered” a failed mission in the Philippines, as well as other CIA exploits.
Don loved taking his family fishing, camping, and on trips across the US.
There will be no local visitation or service. Cremation with a Memorial Service in Arkansas is planned.
The family requests any donations be made in memory of Don to the Alzheimer’s Association.
