Dalia M. Avila née Orellana, age 61, passed away on December 22, 2022 at Franciscan Hospital in Dyer, Indiana. She was born on June 30, 1961 to Jose Othon Orellana and Ramona Peña at Mother Cabrini Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was one of five siblings: John (Luisa) Orellana, Xavier (the late Debbie) Orellana, David (Laura) Orellana, and Ramona Orellana. She is survived by her two children, Virginia Avila and Michael Avila.

From a young age, Dalia was passionate about becoming an educator. After graduating from Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois, Dalia attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she obtained her degree in education. She enjoyed a long career with Chicago Public Schools at George Washington Elementary School as a bilingual educator.

Dalia was a generous, hard-working and thoughtful mother, sister, godmother, cousin, aunt , teacher and friend. In her free time, Dalia enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, spending time with loved ones and pets, and volunteering at Church. She will be dearly missed.
