Austin Allen Smitka, 28, of Portage, Indiana, passed away on January 9, 2024, in Munster, Indiana. He was born on July 25, 1995, in Valparaiso. Austin was an old soul in a young body. He possessed a generous and accepting nature, always sharing his con(dence and courage with those around him. Despite his own circumstances, Austin never allowed them to overshadow the needs, hurts, or wants of others. His inspirational spirit touched the lives of many.
Austin is survived by his loving parents, Ronald and Cynthia Smitka, his brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Rhonda Mason, his brother Devin Smitka, and his brother Donavon Smitka. He was a cherished uncle to his nephews Logan and Lincoln Mason. Austin also leaves behind his great-grandfather William Davis, his grandmother Carol Matthews, and his grandfather Clyde Mason. Additionally, he is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Austin was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Clyde and Esther Mason, Lorraine Davis, and his grandmother Lynn Kuiper.
Austin received his education at Crisman Elementary School in Portage, Indiana, and later graduated from Portage High School. He continued his studies at Ivy Tech Community College.
Austin found solace and community at Grace Baptist Church in Portage, Indiana.
In his free time, Austin enjoyed indulging in his hobbies. He found joy in reading, music, painting, building models, and spending quality time with friends and family.
