Some cremation businesses transfer your loved one to a third-party cremation facility. Some even send them out of state.
We will never do that. We don’t have to, because we own and operate our own state-of-the-art cremation facility at our Geisen Funeral Home location in Crown Point. We also follow a strict triple-level identification process for the ultimate peace of mind.

Other discount crematories use third parties to cremate your loved one, sometimes across state lines.
Indiana state law doesn’t require that crematory operators be certified. Our Cremation Specialists are certified through the Cremation Association of North America, the leading global cremation organization. Our Cremation Specialists are Geisen Funeral Home staff members who take care of your loved one with the highest level of funeral care service.

Q: Are you a licensed funeral home?
Some discount crematories are not a licensed funeral home, they are a third-party business that hires other crematories to perform the actual cremation.

Q: Will you bring my loved one to your facility before the cremation takes place?
Some crematories are not licensed to bring your loved one to their facility at all. Instead, they bring them from the place of death directly to a third-party high-volume crematory, where they may stay for several weeks until the cremation takes place. Another facility will perform the cremation.
We take your loved one directly into our care, by our professional staff members. Your loved one is cremated directly at our state-of-the-art crematory.

Discount cremation is on the rise, and unfortunately many businesses don’t have much experience in the funeral industry, or they’re not a licensed funeral home. This question is important as you think about how you envision the level of compassionate care you expect to receive.

Q: Where do I pick up my loved one’s cremated remains?
At some discount cremation operations, you are instructed to pick up your loved one’s cremated remains at a warehouse-type of location. Some are located in industrial parks or strip malls.

Q: Will I get to see my loved one before the cremation takes place?
Because some crematories are not licensed to have your loved one at their facility, they’ll try to talk you out of viewing your loved one before the cremation takes place. That’s because it’s very inconvenient for a crematory to do this if they don’t operate their own crematory. This is an example of your needs not being met.
