Robert J. Gaylord

April 22, 1941 - March 15, 2026

Robert J Gaylord, 84 of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Steubenville, OH, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2026. He was born April 22, 1941 and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1960. He married Barbara Jean Granada in 1963 and had three children: Brian, Monica and Thomas. They divorced and he married Caroline “Joyce” (Kesling) Porter in 1978.

Bob was a machinist and retired in 2010 after 42 years from Arcelor Mittal Steel (formerly Bethlehem Steel & ISG). He was a “Jack Of All Trades” and his motto was: “If I can’t fix it – it ain’t broke.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel & Florence; sister Virginia (Ginger), and his childhood friend, Al Silvidi.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Brian, Monica & Tom; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas; one sister, Patricia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his close friend, Pete Meleanos, who was actually a member of Bob’s family.

Respecting Robert’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no formal service.

Uncle Bob, you gave me so many great childhood memories when you would come back home to visit. So many laughs, so many stories. You were the first to teach me, unbeknownst to you and many, that one could actually leave their hometown and be something. I will cherish every memory, every laugh, every story and memorabilia of ELO you collected over your time in this world. I am grateful that during my last visit back home, our paths crossed one more time and I was able to hug you. Always my favorite and always with love.
