Norman “Norm” Scheffler, Sr., a beloved husband, cherished friend, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 81, in St. John, Indiana. Born on September 7, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Norm was a man of integrity and warmth whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Norm’s journey began as a young man at Bowen High School, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and commitment. His dedication and leadership qualities shone brightly during his impressive 46-year tenure as a production supervisor at Solo Cup Company. Norm’s work ethic and ability to inspire his colleagues left a lasting impact on the company and its people.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Norm was a proud retired 13-year member of the Dolton, Illinois Fire Department. His bravery and service to the community were hallmarks of a life lived in service to others. Norm’s courage and generosity of spirit were evident to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Norm’s love extended beyond his work and service as he was a devoted husband to his wife, Frances Aiello Scheffler. His children are Annette (Edward) Grotberg, Norman, Jr. (Gloria) Scheffler and Joey Scheffler and grandfather to April Scheffler and Crystal (Kevin) Sherman. Though Norm’s brother Lee preceded him in death, he is fondly remembered by his brother Richard, as well as by numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
An avid fisherman, Norm found serenity and joy in the great outdoors. His passion for collecting military memorabilia spoke to his deep respect for history and those who served. These interests were more than hobbies; they were a reflection of Norm’s loving, generous, and thoughtful nature.
Norm’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and selflessness. He was a man who gave freely of himself and made a lasting difference in the lives of many. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be forever cherished in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Norman Scheffler, Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. Norm’s story does not end with his passing, for his spirit continues to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched.
