Margaret J. Lessner (Margie) 76 years old of Demotte, Indiana passed away on March 30, 2025.
Margie had many talents and quite a few occupations including medical transcriptionist, meat room assistant, cashier, office manager, church secretary, and Sunday School teacher. But nothing was as important to her as being a mother, grandmother, and wife. She was the youngest child born in 1949 in Hammond, Indiana to Fern and George Lucas and was proceeded in death by her five siblings. She attended Edison Elementary, Hammond High School, and Davenport University. After spending her childhood and early adult years in Hammond, she and her husband moved to the “country.” Over the years, she had 15 dogs, 10+ cats, birds, lizards, fish, and nearly 50 chickens. We often joked that she loved her family deeply but loved her animals even more. When not away at work or spending time with grandkids, she spent almost all her time outside with her pets and rescued animals. They brought her tremendous joy over the years.
Margie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Lessner Jr, high school sweethearts from Hammond High School class of 1967, along with her son Paul Lessner III (Joan), son Charles Lessner (Laurie), and daughter Shannon Lessner (Brad); grandchildren Katlyn (Josh), Sean
(Lindsey), Paul IV (Katie), Charles Jr, Machaila, Leah, Jessica, and Christianna; great grandchildren Carter and Alyx; her best friend and loving life-sister, Flo Boshears, as well as, many friends from work, church, and school; sister-in-law, Catherine Queen; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial/where to call will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to your local veterinarian office or animal shelter to help struggling pet owners afford care and/or pets to be adopted at rescue facilities as these were causes that were very dear to Margie’s heart throughout her life.
Her favorite quotes & sayings:
“It’s not hoarding if it’s collectibles.”
“Enjoy the small things and laugh often… until your belly hurts, tears roll down your cheeks, and you pee your pants.”
“Dork, smork.”
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
