On September 25, 2024, Dwayne Sandra Enyeart (née Sovola) transitioned back into stardust. She passed peacefully at home while her closest loved ones stood vigil. She will be loved, forever and ever.
Dwayne is most known for her 53 years as a teacher. Of those years, 51 were spent in service to the students at Elliott Elementary in Munster, IN. Her dedication to children’s education extended beyond the classroom into the community where she taught Sunday school and summer science programs. She shared her love of Monarch butterflies, whales, dinosaurs, and indigenous cultures with her students. Dwayne was an avid gardener, filling her garden with flowers and her magical home with decorations for every season.
She moved to Cedar Lake in 1965 and remained in the same home until her passing. Dwayne also spent many summers at the family’s cabin in Leech Lake, MN. She graduated from Hammond High School (1955) and Indiana University (1959) where she later returned to earn her Master’s in Education. Dwayne was always working on many creative projects. In retirement, she became a prolific painter of flowers, cabins, barns, and trees. A lifelong friend of everyone furry and feathered, she loved feeding the birds, raccoons, and even stray cats that helped to make her home feel like a fairytale.
Dwayne is survived by her children: Samantha Skye (Adam) Rust, John (Sandi) Enyeart; grandchildren Jessica (Kevin) Michiels, Nicholas (Brynn) Enyeart, Caitlin (Adam) Kimble, Samuel (Brittany) Enyeart, Elizabeth (Zarrett) Ryckman; great-grandchildren Delilah, Tesla, Elsie, Winston, Rowland, Colter, Josephine; and selfless caregiver-friends Alona Anderson, Shelly Fritts; canine companion Gruffy, kitty Tom Selleck. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents John and Bernice Sovola, brother Ronald, husband Roger, and many beloved pets.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Friends and family are welcome to join in celebrating Dwayne’s life. To honor her memory, a Celebration of Life and Autumn party will take place at one of Dwayne’s most-loved places: Wilson Shelter of the Indiana Dunes State Park at County Rd 100 E, Chesterton, IN 46304, Friday, October 18 from 11 am – 3 pm.
