Ms. Mary Anne Newton (née Hendrickson), age 82, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Munster, Indiana. Born on March 18, 1943, in Rochester, New York, she lived a life marked by compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to both her family and community.
Mary Anne dedicated her professional life to the field of psychiatric nursing. She began her career in clinical settings where she provided care and support to those navigating mental health challenges. Later, she transitioned into roles within the insurance industry, applying her expertise in new ways while continuing to advocate for patient well-being. Throughout her career, she embraced lifelong learning and found fulfillment in the evolving nature of her work.
After retiring from nursing, Mary Anne remained active and engaged by volunteering at the Munster Police Department. Her desire to contribute meaningfully never waned, and she found joy in staying connected with her community through service.
Mary Anne was known for her kindness and unwavering support of those around her. She was not afraid to express her opinions and stood firm when it mattered most. Her strength of character was matched by a warm heart and a generous spirit that drew people close. She cherished time spent with others and cultivated many enduring friendships over the years.
Family was central to Mary Anne’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Joseph Newton and Patricia Newton-Curran; her son-in-law John Curran; her grandchildren: Vincent Newton, Morgan Newton, Brooke Newton, Caitlin Curran (Chris Cottingham), and Laurel Curran; and her great-granddaughter Madison Cottingham. She also leaves behind her brothers Michael Hendrickson and John Hendrickson, as well as her sister-in-law Lynne Hendrickson.
Mary Anne’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched—with love that was strong and enduring. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
