Helen Lyons, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, in Gary, Indiana. Born on May 25, 1930, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, she lived a long and full life marked by devotion to her family and the love of her life, E.C. (Red) Lyons, Jr. They were married in 1948, and lived in Biron, Wisconsin before moving to Gary, Indiana.
Helen was the daughter of August and Marie Hase. She grew up alongside her sister Lottie and brother Gerhard. Throughout her life, Helen remained deeply connected to her roots and cherished the bonds she shared with family.
Professionally, Helen served as Manager at several Radio Shack locations throughout the Midwest. Her leadership spanned stores in Dyer and Hammond (Woodmar), Indiana; Valparaiso, Indiana; and Lansing, Illinois. Her dedication to her work was evident in the trust placed in her across multiple locations—a testament to her reliability and capability.
Above all else, Helen was a devoted mother. She is survived by six children: Jeffery Lyons; Jon (Belen) Lyons; Justin (Carol) Lyons; Jennifer Weinberger; Jory (Adriana) Lyons, Sr.; and Jodi Guerra. Her legacy continues through ten grandchildren—Jeffery Jr., Janiel, Rachel, John, and Karis Lyons; Craig and Alexandra Weinberger; Jory Jr. and Tyler Lyons; and Antonio Guerra—as well as numerous great-grandchildren who brought great joy to her.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Emerald C. Lyons, Jr.; her daughter Jade E. Lyons; her parents August and Marie Hase; her sister Lottie Baumgartner; her brother Gerhard Hase; grandson, Barrett Weinberger; and nieces Jan Captain and Jackie Captain.
Family was everything to Helen. She found joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She had a curious mind and a passion for learning that never waned with age. Helen enjoyed reading about holistic medicine and emerging technologies—interests that reflected both a deep care for others’ well-being and an enduring intellectual curiosity.
Helen was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, where she found spiritual community and strength throughout the years.
Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
