Glenn Holk passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, with his wife, Shirley, and daughter, Susan, by his side.
Glenn was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1967. While stationed for training in Vallejo, California, he met Shirley Goss. They married on October 28, 1962, in Pocatello, Idaho, beginning a marriage that would span nearly 64 years.
During his Navy years, while stationed in Japan, Glenn bought his first 35mm camera. He became an avid amateur photographer and, especially in his younger years, was rarely without a camera nearby to capture the people, places, and moments around him.
In 1972, Glenn and Shirley purchased five acres in Union Township, Porter County, near Hobart, Indiana, where they made their home and raised their two children, Jerry and Susan.
Glenn was a longtime member of Pipefitters Local 597, working in the trade from 1967 until his retirement in 2004. Hard work came naturally to Glenn. He always seemed to have a tool in his hand, whether he was working on something of his own or helping a neighbor with a project. If something needed to be built, fixed, or figured out, Glenn was usually willing to lend a hand.
In their later years, Glenn and Shirley enjoyed their trips to Silver Dollar City, where Glenn loved taking in the shows—and wasn’t about to let getting older keep him off the roller coasters.
Glenn is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley; his son, Jerry Holk and wife BJ; his daughter, Susan Trail-Johnson and husband Timothy Johnson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Glenn’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation will take place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Glenn will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and all those whose lives he touched along the way.
