Edith Smith, 94, of Michigan City, IN, passed away Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025. She was born in 1931 in Muskegon, MI. The daughter of Dutch immigrants, she was the first of her family to be born in the United States.
Edie graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, MI in 1948. On August 8, 1952 she married Stanley Smith. They shared their life together for 72 years until his passing earlier this year. They moved to Michigan City in 1965 and spent their final year together in assisted living in Chesterton, IN. They enjoyed celebrating the 5 o’clock hour with conversation and birdwatching.
Edie is survived by her two daughters, Susan (companion Dave) Smith and Julie (Kent) Mackey, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Susanna.
